The San Jose Sharks have made a frustrating announcement this afternoon as forward Macklin Celebrini is now facing a major roadblock in his season.

Macklin Celebrini made his much-anticipated NHL debut earlier this week. Macklin Celebrini came out and was everything he was advertised to be. Early on in his debut Macklin Celebrini scored against the St. Louis Blues.

After the game fans of both the San Jose Sharks and the NHL in general were excited to see what Macklin Celebrini could do as a follow-up. A couple of days after Macklin Celebrini made his debut reports began to come out about a possible injury. Sharks head coach David Warsofsky spoke to the media and gave an initial update. At the time of the original update, Warsofsky revealed more tests needed to be done on Celebrini.

Now just a day later the San Jose Sharks have provided an official update on Macklin Celebrini's recovery time and it is not good for the Sharks and their fans.

Macklin Celebrini officially placed on injured reserve

A report has now come in confirming things are worse than originally thought with Macklin Celebrini. Multiple sources have confirmed Macklin Celebrini will be placed on injured reserve.

With this move, Macklin Celebrini is now going to be out for at least 7 days before he can be removed from injured reserve. At this time it is not known exactly how long Macklin Celebrini is supposed to miss or what his exact injury is. Celebrini also was forced to leave a preseason game due to a lower-body injury last month. Reports over the next few days will likely confirm whether or not this injury is the same one that has now landed the young superstar on injured reserve.

Macklin Celebrini was selected first overall by the San Jose Sharks and expected to be the franchise savior. At Boston University last season Macklin Celebrini was incredible scoring 64 points in 38 NCAA games. The Sharks were hoping to pair him along with fellow college star Will Smith and take a major step towards the Stanley Cup Playoffs this season.

Now with Macklin Celebrini out the San Jose Sharks will need to find replacements to fill the massive hole at the top of their lineup. Once more reports are released regarding Macklin Celebrini's injury and potential return we will pass them along to you.
