Quinn Hughes' status ahead of the 4-Nations Face-Off was likely confirmed by his agent, as the Vancouver Canucks captain remains sidelined with a mysterious injury.

Set to represent the United States at the upcoming 4-Nations Face-Off, Quinn Hughes faced a massive injury setback that put doubt over his presence at the long-awaited tournament.

The Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet shared an update on Hughes' status yesterday, before announcing he wouldn't take part in last night's game against the Colorado Avalanche.

"He's not going to play tonight. You know, he wants to gut everything out, but it's the right move."

"You take it day by day with him or with anybody. So we'll see. I've seen guys, things linger. (And) I've seen some guys after 24 hours, things help. So we'll see how it goes."

Tocchet also talked about the Four Nations Face-Off, stating that they haven't talked about it and that they'll revisit his status day-to-day:

"We haven't even talked about Four Nations, honestly. It was (about) tonight, and then he's not playing tonight. As the days go on, we'll have to revisit that."

Hughes has been one of the best players in the whole National Hockey League this season once again, and it was a no-brainer to put him on the roster for best-on-best action.

Fortunately for American fans, Hughes' agent J.P. Barry stated that his client is dealing with "bumps and bruises", which aren't serious, and most importantly, revealed that the player wants to be ready and wants to compete in the tournament.

In his own words:

"Just bumps and bruises. He's working through it, but it's nothing serious. It's just the riggers of a hard season, and he just wants to play. He plays a lot of minutes, and he's a target for people, so he's going to have to play through those things. The odd day, there will be a rest like there was here, but it will help him, and he'll be right back."

"...He just wants to be ready, and he wants to play at that level. It's important to him, and it's important to the game, and I don't think it is going to affect the team at all."

As you can see, nothing indicates that Hughes won't be able to take part in the tournament. We'll have to wait for an official update before making any assumptions affirming the opposite.
