The Los Angeles Kings currently sit in third place in the Pacific Division, with the team hoping the return of Drew Doughty to the lineup could spark them for a big second-half run.
Unfortunately for the Kings however, his return is a double-edged sword, as this has led to reduced ice time for 21-year-old rising star Brandt Clarke, who has gone from 19 MPG to 15, and with Doughty's return, it will likely take him out of the lineup completely after he was a healthy scratch.
Now, in a shocking turn of events, Insider Kevin Weekes has suggested that the team could be setting up a trade of the former first-round pick as they look to get veteran help and push for a Stanley Cup Playoff run in 2024/25.
At this point in time, there haven't been any reports that substantiate this claim, but with the Kings lacking elite-level talent up front, he could be a very good trade chip if the team wants to land a top center or an elite-level winger.
In 47 games this season, Clarke has been the best defenseman on this Kings team, tallying 3 goals and 24 points with a solid +8 differential as many see him being set up as a key piece of the Kings' future.
Now, it's all up to Rob Blake to make a key decision here, as Clarke could net them a key piece of a potential Stanley Cup Playoff run, but if the team has the patience that some fans want them to have, they could be looking at an elite level defenseman for years to come.
