The Florida Panthers have perhaps not been quite as dominant as they were last season, but they are still a powerhouse in the NHL.
The team currently leads the Atlantic Division with a 30-19-3 record, giving them a one-point lead over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Even the good teams still have roster turnover though and that is exactly what we are seeing from the Panthers this morning.
The team just announced that they have placed veteran defenseman Adam Boqvist on waivers for the purpose of sending him down to the American Hockey League.
Boqvist, 24, was selected 8th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2018 draft.
Since then he has appeared in 227 career regular-season NHL games split between the Blackhawks, Blue Jackets, and Panthers.
He has 25 goals and 91 points in those games. This season he has 2 goals and 6 points through 18 games with Florida.
The Swedish blueliner has never really lived up to expectations as a top-ten pick but has found a way to stay in the NHL so far.
However, that may be changing soon if this move is any indicator.
He has been trending in the wrong direction for some time now as he continues to be relegated to a smaller and smaller role with his teams.
Perhaps this will mean that he will return to Europe in the coming years. It is certainly possible, but hard to say at this moment in time.
Stay tuned to see what happens next for Boqvist in his NHL and hockey career more broadly.
