Igor Shesterkin has reportedly turned down a huge deal with the New York Rangers, and it could lead to a blockbuster trade.

Over the past few days, it has been reported that the New York Rangers were looking to get a massive extension done with Igor Shesterkin, but the former Vezina Trophy winner has turned down the largest contract in NHL history at the position. This leaves both parties at a crossroads, as the team wants to continue having Shesterkin in the net for years to come, and while he turned down this deal, according to Kevin Weekes, the conversations are still ongoing.

Now, with all of this unfolding, reports have emerged that rival teams are potentially putting together trade packages that would land the star goalie where they could hand him a record-breaking deal. One of those teams is the Los Angeles Kings, who are reportedly pushing hard to land the Russian star out of New York to fix their goaltending issues, and if the trade is right, it would allow them to top the 8-year, $88 million deal that was offered by the Rangers.

With New York still chasing a Stanley Cup, it's unclear if they would actually entertain any trades on the 28-year-old star, but if any team needs to fix their goaltending and has the prospects and cap space to make a deal like this happen, it's the Kings. At this point, any talk of a potential trade between the two parties or any team is premature, as New York and Shesterkin are working through all of their options moving forward. Still, if negotiations continue in this fashion, speculation around the star may heat up.
