Minnesota Wild's Ryan Hartman was recently suspended 10 games for his takedown of Senators' Tim Stutzle, and he will forfeit a ton of salary in the process.

Minnesota Wild winger Ryan Hartman received a 10-game suspension from the NHL Department of Player Safety for roughing Ottawa Senators winger Tim Stutzle on Feb. 1.

It occurred in the waning seconds of the second period when Hartman took down Stutzle during a faceoff and shoved him headfirst onto the ice. Stutzle received a blow to the head but played through the game. Hartman received a match penalty.

Hartman will forfeit nearly half a million dollars during suspension

For that, Hartman will sacrifice $487,804.90 in salary throughout his suspension. The 29-year-old, who signed for three years and $12 million in October 2023 with a $4 million salary cap hit, is a repeat offender.

His salary will go towards the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund. He can file an appeal, as reported by NHL insider Chris Johnston.

"If Ryan Hartman elects to appeal his suspension and NHL commissioner Gary Bettman doesn't reduce it below six games, he has the option to appeal to a neutral arbitrator." Johnston tweeted.

The Senators, meanwhile, blanked the Wild with a 6-0 shutout, collecting a fourth win in a row for them.

Jake Sanderson led them with a marker and three helpers, and Josh Norris, Stutzle, and Michael Amadio added a marker each before taking down the Nashville Predators 5-2 last night for their fifth win in a row.

Below is the Department of Player Safety's reasoning for issuing a suspension for as long as 10 games to Hartman.

"This is roughing. It is important to note that this is not a hockey play. Hartman contends that he is attempting to use his hand to regain his balance, using Stutzle for support, and that their fall to the ice is accidental. We disagree," NHLPS said in their video. "With Stutzle bent low and focused on winning the draw, Hartman chooses to take advantage of a vulnerable player in an unacceptable fashion.
