Alex Ovechkin's run in the NHL is slowly coming to an end, and while he's got time left, he's looking to the future, revealing who the next Capitals captain will be.
Alex Ovechkin will go down as one of the greatest captains and players in NHL history, and while he continues to chase Wayne Gretzky's goal scoring record, his time in the NHL is clearly coming to an end. With the future of the Capitals up in the air, the Russian star has now revealed who he believes will be the player to take over his role as captain of the Capitals moving forward.
Wilson is currently 30-years old, so it's likely that he'll be between 31 and 33 when Ovechkin officially retires, but given he's played over 750 games with the team, it makes sense that he becomes the player to lead this team going forward.
The organization has plenty of question marks to answer as they look to become a contender once more, but given Wilson's leadership abilities, it's safe to say that he is the best and most logical choice for the role.
