Jon Cooper faces backlash for his comments after loss to Panthers

Jon Cooper, the Tampa Bay Lightning head coach, faced backlash for controversial comments after the loss to the Florida Panthers.

Being eliminated from the playoffs is hard. After a full year of competing, and leaving it all on the ice, going home after four losses against the same team is tough.

However, some of his comments aren't being well-received. Indeed, when discussing the two disallowed goals his team scored, the coach went a bit too far for some people.

In a passionate speach, he said the NHL had inconsistent calls all year long, and that they protected the goalies too much in the playoffs.

Where he crossed the line is when he mentionned that they "might as well put skirts on them [the goalies]." A lot of people criticized his comments; accusing him of sexism.

That way of thinking doesn't belong in 2024. While the rest of his speech was moving and convincing, this sentence threw a cloud over the moment.
