Beloved Washington Capitals announcer John Walton has made a tragic announcement to all of his fans today: he has colon cancer.

John Walton, the well-known radio commentator for the Washington Capitals and former announcer for the Hershey Bears, shared on Tuesday that he has been diagnosed with colon cancer. He made the announcement through a post on X.

John Walton has been calling games for the Capitals since 2011, after spending nine years in a similar role with the Hershey Bears. He's also worked with NBC Sports, covering some Stanley Cup playoff games and women's hockey at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Many famous faces around the league took to X to wish John all of their best wishes.

After the news broke, fans, writers, and the Capitals organization expressed strong support for Walton.
