Trent Miner has been a goaltender who has battled against the odds to be the starting goalie for the Utah Grizzlies, the Avs' ECHL affiliate. Trent was selected in the final or 7th round of the 2019 NHL Entry draft by the Colorado Avalanche. As a young 20 year old goalie he has shown a lot of promise in terms of development and watching him play has been fun to say the least. His stats speak for themselves 7-4-0, 4 SO, 2.13 GAA and 0.930 in the ECHL. I am hoping we spend more time developing this young goaltender so we have two good starting goalies now and in the future, to look forward too.
Darcy Kuemper, one of the biggest surprises coming out of Colorado's off season. When we had shockingly lost Philipp Gruuuuuubauer to Seattle as a Free Agent. It felt like for the first time in a long time that we had seen Joe Sakic finally lose someone that was lights out for us. When he scrambled to acquire a new goalie, we had moved our 2022 1st Round Pick, Connor Timmins and a 2022 Conditional 3rd for Darcy Kuemper.
Meanwhile Brayden Holtby, Tuukka Rask were just of the some names still available in Free Agency. However, we have faith in Joe as he pulled the trigger and made this deal and started the new chapter of goaltending in Colorado.
When Darcy Kuemper first played in Colorado, you could see the nerves. He quickly got into form, but then got injured and has only recently returned back to the Avalanche in starting form. He has put up a 16-5-1, 2.86 GAA with a 0.905 save percentage. With Darcy being on the last year of his contract it makes me a little nervous but as previously said...
Colorado's goaltending depth leaves fans in a happy situation. We just need to maintain consistency.
Part 3 is going to be a starting goalie battle between Darcy Kuemper vs.
Philipp Grubauer.
