It had started to seem like the Montreal Canadiens' General Manager search was reaching a conclusion, but according to Pierre LeBrun suddenly a new candidate has emerged as a potential favourite.
Hearing that agent Kent Hughes has re-entered the picture in the Habs GM search process. Believe Montreal circled back to him this week after he wasn't originally part of interviews. I would put Hughes among those 3-4 candidates.

It seems odd for the Canadiens to circle back to a new candidate this late in the process unless they're not completely satisfied with the candidates they've interviewed so far.
Kent Hughes was connected to the Canadiens early on as he currently represents upcoming free agent Patrice Bergeron who the Habs are rumoured to covet highly this summer.
Hughes also represents the likes of Kris Letang, Drake Batherson, Darnell Nurse and other high profile NHL players, giving him clear experience negotiating high leverage contracts.
This is a developing situation that definitely will be closely followed in the next couple of days.
