Amazon Buys Minority Stake in Diamond Sports Group

The NHL has had a tough string of luck when it comes to partnerships. Their recent bad luck came when Bally Sports and Entertainment went bankrupt, the local broadcaster for 12 NHL teams.
Now, Amazon has agreed to purchase a minority stake in Diamond Sports Group, the parent company for Bally Sports. They will stream NHL games on Amazon Prime.
Big news this morning that Amazon is acquiring a minority stake in Diamond Sports Group.

The regional sports network filed for bankruptcy last year, putting local media rights for 37 teams across the NBA, MLB, and NHL in jeopardy.

Now, customers can watch games on Amazon Prime.
This is massive news for those who were worried about their local broadcasting being cut. Additionally, streaming on Amazon Prime should make local games more accessible to a broader audience.
We will see how this plays out in practice as the deal finalizes and comes to fruition.
