This past week we saw the Vancouver Canucks make the difficult decision to trade away their captain after failing to come to terms on an extension with the upcoming Unrestricted Free Agent.
The Canucks signed JT Miller last season to a long term deal and that basically used up the remaining cap space that they could have used to bring back
Bo Horvat.
When the deal was made, at the time the Islanders had not had any contract talks with Horvat as the Canucks did not allow teams to discuss contract details, and well, less than a week after the trade, the Islanders managed to lock in Horvat long term.
There was a lot of speculation this past week that Horvat was just going to not re-sign and test the free agent market, but that is no longer the case apparently:
Bo Horvat is having a career year this season, and he has definitely cashed in on it:
NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman has confirmed that the New York Islanders have signed Bo Horvat to an 8 year deal with an AAV of $8,500,000.
It's hard to believe that the Canucks refused to offer this to Horvat.
