It as a very special moment for the Montreal Canadiens last night despite finishing 32nd in the NHL this season, the Montreal Canadiens wanted to make last night a memorable one for fans and show the future is indeed bright in Montreal.
This included Carey Price making a surprise return after many believed Price wouldn't be able to play after what looked like Price re-injured his knee last Saturday vs the Ottawa Senators. However after meeting with his surgeon this past Monday Price wanted to play the Team's final game of the season.
The Canadiens wouldn't disappoint, having their best game of the year beating the President Trophy winning Florida Panthers 10-2. This was also special for Canadiens Carey Price playing in his 700th game last night. Many are now believing this was quite possibly Carey's Price final game in Montreal.
After this game Pierre Gervais would speak of Carey Price saying:
"I hope the best, and for whatever he hopes. This guy, I've said it before, he's amazing, he's been through a lot of stuff. He's working so hard off the ice, and hopefully this summer is going to be a good summer for him; he's going to get set up with all his doctors and deal with all his injuries and he's going to have a couple more seasons, hopefully."
Pierre Gervais has been there for Carey's entire career and didn't deny this might have been Price's last one in Montreal or in the NHL saying:
"Yes It's a possibility Price might be done. I'm not a doctor, but it's a possibility Carey could be done but not by choice. But if it is this would be a great way to finish tonight was amazing."
Pierre Gervais wanted to share more on Carey Price too saying:
"I'm so, so, so happy for Carey Price, he's an extraordinary man. Never mind the goaltender, who was the best in the world, and all the things he did; I had the chance to be with him alone in the dressing room on many early mornings, and he's just an extraordinary person."
This doesn't mean Carey Price is retiring or possibly being traded but their is definitely uncertainty of Carey's future. However Price is under contract for four more seasons. Thanks to the former Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin and that huge eight year contract extension Price signed making him the highest paid goaltender in NHL history.
Carey would speak to the media today and would say this:
"My honest opinion is no. I don't believe the current state would be sustainable for a full season, but I've always been a fighterso I'm not giving up, I'm just continuing to get a lot of swelling in my knee. Due to that fact, it's difficult to do things well, Some aspects of goaltending are difficult for me to do. We're gonna get us another opinion and go from there."
