McDavid Challenges The NHL And Bettman With Latest Decision
Connor McDavid made a surprising decision when the Edmonton Oilers took the ice in New Jersey tonight. The New Jersey Devils were having their pride night tonight and McDavid decided to join the festivities by using pride tape.
Pride tape was infamously banned earlier this season by the NHL and Gary Bettman. Despite this McDavid showed his support as did the Oilers by posting a photo of him using the tape on their X.
The NHL has not punished players who have used pride tape to this point. However, they did ban it to begin the season sending mixed messages to players. If they are not going to stop players from using the tape they should just unban the use of it.
This would allow players to use the tape without fear of retribution from the NHL. It would allow the players who want to represent the LGBTQ+ community to do so while others do not need to.
