This summer the NHL was shocked when NHL broadcast partner Bally Sports announced they were filing for bankruptcy. They filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy after their owner revealed they are over $8 billion in debt.
This announcement left the NHL in a difficult position because they needed Bally to broadcast games they were under contract to do so. This led the NHL to need to find a way to hold Bally to their agreement until they can make other arrangements.
Today the NHL announced they had agreed with Bally to keep games broadcast until the NHL can find a new home for the teams under Bally's umbrella.
The NHL today announced they have reached an agreement with Bally to transition easily from their coverage to the NHL's next option.
The NHL announced that Bally will continue through the end of the season at which point the NHL will take over broadcast rights for those teams.
As of now, the NHL has not announced who is expected to take over after Bally is done with their requirement. Regardless the NHL has made sure that these teams will not be without a local broadcast option going forward.
