The New Jersey Devils came into this season as major Stanley Cup favourites in the Eastern Conference, and after a slow start, it appears things are turning, and their latest move could help them out in a big way.

After another positive start to the season with 16 points in just 20 games, TSN's Pierre LeBrun has revealed that he is now likely out until the playoffs due to a tough injury.

"They don't have a firm timeline but my understanding is he's probably out until the playoffs, until perhaps late April, early May. The flip side to that, they have a $9M cap hit to play with."

While that's a tough break for the Devils, it appears as though it's presented them with a major opportunity to circumvent the salary cap, and it's safe to say that opposing fans aren't going to like it.

Plenty of salary cap space to make some massive moves

Like we've seen with Tampa Bay over the past few years, the Devils have now opened up plenty of space, $9 million in this case, giving them the opportunity to add a player or two and get Hamilton back for the playoffs too.

"They've already been doing their due diligence on the D market, but they can also potentially add a goalie, they can add a couple of players that can help that roster with that $9M."

Unsurprisingly, the Devils have already been scouting the league for an addition on the blue line, as well as a potentially new starting goaltender, and if they can make some wise moves and get Hamilton back for the playoffs, this team could be unstoppable.
