When we were all kids, our dreams was to play in the NHL and win the Stanley Cup for your favorite hockey team. But some people have a different vision for their futures, this includes 19 year old NCAA Star and Toronto Maple Leafs top prospect Matthews Knies who made an interesting choice.
We have seen a pile of NCAA Players make the jump to the NHL including 1st overall pick
Owen Power the Toronto Maple Leafs prospect said:
Matthew Knies has told the Toronto Maple Leafs he's not going to sign his entry level contract this offseason and will return to the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers of the NCAA next season.
Knies and the Gophers have a very good chance chance at a championship season in 2022-23 and at his young age there's still plenty of time for him to develop before needing to turn pro.
Knies believes this is the best choice for him and his development aswell as gets to continue his schooling. NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reports that:
The Leafs have had teams trying to acquire Knies including the Chicago Blackhawks, and Arizona Coyotes where Knies is from.
