Reid Boucher is a former NHL play who played 133 games for 3 separate teams. Boucher was drafted 99th overall by the New Jersey Devils in 2011. Boucher left the NHL to join the KHL for the 2020-2021 Season where he won the KHL Gagarin Cup.

Boucher has clearly left the NHL behind, but he was unable to leave his past behind. Reid just pled guilty to the sexual assault of a 12-year old girl. When the act was committed Boucher was 17-years old and a member of the USA National Development Program.

On December 13th Boucher pled guilty in Washtenaw County Trial Court to third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving sexual penetration with an individual between the ages of 13 and 16 years old.

The original charge against Boucher was first-degree criminal sexual conduct, a charge that carries a sentence of 25 years to life. However, Circuit Judge Patrick Conlin agreed to let Ried enter a plea for a lesser charge. Part of this agreement agreed to sentence Boucher to no upfront jail time under the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act, or HYTA. Under the terms of HYTA, the case won't appear on Boucher's public record if he successfully completes his sentence.

The judge deemed the move appropriate given what he deemed "unusual" circumstances in the case, and referenced Boucher's age at the time of the reported assault and how long it has been since then.

Now though the victim, who is now 23, is absolutely enraged with the judgement as well as the way she's been treated during the lead-up to this trial. The victim in question was Boucher's billet sister.

Hopefully this crime ends Boucher's pro hockey career, because this absolutely disgusting act isn't something anyone associated with professional Hockey should have on their record.
