After making it all the way to the Stanley Cup finals last year, the Montreal Canadiens came into this season with so much hope and potential, but fizzled out quick.

In the offseason the team lost captain Shea Weber to injury, hall of fame goaltender Carey Price to injury and star shut down center Philip Danault to free agency. These losses just proved to be something the team could not overcome. Not to mention that under the eye of Dominique Ducharme, everyone was unhappy and young stars like Cole Caufield were playing awful.

After St.Louis took over as head coach, the team got much better and players like Caufield and Suzuki were playing much better, good enough that Caufield could have taken a run at the Calder trophy if the coaching change happened a few weeks earlier.

But even with the coaching change, the Montreal Canadiens are still last in the league. The good news is though, the season is over and there should be nothing but positives in the Habs future. With almost securing the last place seed, the Habs should have the best chances at the #1 overall pick in this upcoming draft, which has franchise center Shane Wright available.

Wright had a slow start to this season, but finished the regular season with 94 points in 63 games, captaining the Kingston Frontenacs to the OHL playoffs.

Could we be seeing Wright in a Habs jersey next season?
