Ever since Patrice Bergeron announced his retirement, there have been constant rumors linking the Bruins to any first-line center available on the trade market or free-agent market.
Two of the players the Bruins have been linked to are Mark Scheifele and Elias Lindholm, both soon-to-be free agents in the final year of their deals. Scheifele would bring more offense to the Bruins having come off a 42-goal campaign but his defensive game is not nearly as strong as Bergeron's.
Lindholm on the other hand is coming off a relatively down year but has the capability of scoring 40 goals himself which he did in 2021-22. He also is a strong defensive player finishing as a Selke finalist previously and is more of a stylistic fit for the Bruins looking for a Bergeron-type player to replace Bergeron.
In a recent 32 Thoughts from Elliotte Friedman, he revealed how much it would cost a team to sign Lindholm to a long-term deal.
That would be quite a pretty penny for Lindholm but he is a bonafide top-line center and one the Bruins could use for the long run.
Only time will tell if the Bruins make a strong push for Lindholm next offseason or if Lindholm will sign an extension in Calgary beforehand.
