Rasmus Andersson and Tom Wilson Mock Each Other from the Penalty Box in Hilarious Fashion
There was a hilarious moment during last night's Flames-Capitals game, as Rasmus Andersson and Tom Wilson mocked each other on the ice and in the box.
The Washington Capitals and Calgary Flames, two of the most physically playing rosters in the NHL, saw tempers boil over in the third period of Tuesday's contest.
Things started when Flames winger Adam Klapka, 6-foot-8, crashed into Tom Wilson with a big hit, sending him into the boards.
As Wilson struggled to stand, Klapka delivered a cross-check that sent him sliding back onto the ice, and a two-minute penalty ensued. Wilson lay down, clutching at his side in agony.
Wilson struggled to stand a moment later and skated over to Klapka for a tongue-lashing in a verbal tirade.
As they were being pried apart, the grizzled winger mockingly patted down Klapka's jersey, seeming to try and figure out who in the heck he was.
The hit awakened Wilson's feisty personality, and everyone in attendance seemed to enjoy it. Later, with less than five minutes to go, Flames agitator Rasmus Andersson goaded Wilson following a penalty taken on Connor McMichael.
Andersson blames it on emotions riding high
Holding onto his side in over-the-top agony, Andersson shouted "OW! OW! OW!", suggesting that Wilson faked out the first hit.
«I mean, it's emotions, right?» Andersson said in a video posted to Sportsnet. «I know he gets triggered by certain stuff. It's emotions. When you look back at it, it's all good on my part at least.
«It's not the first time we chirp each other. It was pretty quiet until the end. I got him going, he got me going. It worked out for them. It's all fun and it's part of it in my opinion at least.»
Wilson wasn't having any of it. He took Andersson's jersey, and an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty ensued for both, with a verbal sparring session in the penalty box afterward.
Wilson even impersonated Andersson's high-flying helmet hairdo during one of them. Post-game, in a winning Capitals' room, Wilson's teammates couldn't resist laughing at the shenanigans.
«I was laughing too,» Logan Thompson said, admitting he felt fortunate his mask could hide his face. «Looking up at the Jumbotron and seeing Tom and him go back and forth, it's funny. You can't help but laugh.
«It's awesome,» he added. «Those are fun games to be a part of. I love that stuff. I love Tom. It was funny, for sure. I was enjoying it.» The two teams face off against each other again on February 25th in Washington, so fans will be keeping a close eye on whether any of this will boil over.
