Auston Matthews will demand a massive payday and it sounds like the Leafs may be zeroing in on a deal with the 2022 Hart Trophy winner.
Matthews' Future In Toronto Leaked
There has been a lot of noise about Auston Matthews and his contract with the Maple Leafs. He is entering the final year of his deal and will be able to go to unrestricted free agency if he does not re-sign in Toronto before this time next year.
However, Matthews has shown a clear interest in resigning with the Leafs. The two sides and getting close to a deal and insider Elliotte Friedman revealed when we can expect to see Matthews re-sign.

Contract Projection
Matthews is definitely going to be the highest paid player in the NHL after he signs his new contract. There are rumors he could receive upwards of $14 million but he will likely sign for $13 million or slightly more.
With a timeline on when Matthews will re-sign, we can expect the Leafs to start working harder on other players such as William Nylander to ensure their core can stay together and hopefully lead them to a cup.
