It comes a time in every NHL hockey players career when they have to take a look in the mirror and decide if it's time call it a career and hang up the skates. It could be due to Injures, health, family or just can't do it anymore.
But some other's Just have nothing left to prove like New York Islanders defenseman Zdeno Chara. He's done it all in this league and has been able continue being an effective player at the age that others players could only dream of. But at age 45 Chara has been hinting it's time. Though he can still play, just not at the level he did in Boston.
Mike Stephen's of the Hockey News has written a piece about if now that the New York Islanders are officially out of the playoffs, if this means that we are watching the final games of Chara's historic, hall of fame career. He goes on to say this about Chara:
"Chara has done it all Chara has reached practically every milestone an NHL defenseman possibly can throughout his lengthy career. The 45-year-old has suited up for well over 1,600 regular-season games, joining only a select few in the league's history to do so. He's captained an Original Six team to the Stanley Cup, won the Norris Trophy as the league's top defenseman, earned a spot on the NHL's first All-Star team three times, and even taken home the meaningless Mark Messier Leadership Award that conveniently omits its namesake's stint as a Vancouver Canuck. Realistically, Chara has done it all.»
