The New York Islanders have struggled to maintain their spot in the playoff race early in the season. The team's lack of success has led to a call for change from the Islanders' fans. There was then a strong response from some of the Islanders players.

Islanders Fans Call For Lambert To Be Fired With In-Game Chant

Last night during the New York Islanders game against the Washington Capitals there were multiple reports of a chant that broke out amongst fans.

The Islanders lose again, their fans are booing them out the building and attendance at a new rink has never been worse. What a shame! #isles

While there isn't much known about exactly what fans were chanting it was related to head coach Lane Lambert. Among the boos were rumored to be fire Lambert chants.

After the game, several Islanders players including one key veteran spoke up about the atmosphere.

Islanders Veterans React To Fan Chants Calling For Coach's Job

After their loss to the Washington Capitals, New York Islanders veterans Casey Cizikas and Cal Clutterbuck spoke up about their opinions on the fans.

Cizikas (Sat): «It's a joke. That kind of stuff ticks me off. It really does. I've got no time for those fans. I've got no time for them. If they want to be like that, they can stay home.»

Vs.

Clutterbuck (Tues): «Everyone's entitled to their opinion, I guess. It's up to them whether they want to scream from the rooftops or keep it to themselves. I don't really care. They paid for their ticket, they wanna say what they wanna say. That's what it is.» #Isles

Cizikas will not do himself any favors with the fans with his comments. While it's clear he is just protecting his team the comments come off as horrible. Clutterbuck on the other hand does still seem annoyed by the fans' reactions but acknowledges their right to do so.

Regardless of fan behavior the Islanders will need to turn their play around quick if they want to preserve the job of the coach they are defending.
