As Alexander Ovechkin bears down on Wayne Gretzky's record for goals in an NHL career, an injury may be hindering the 38-year-old's pursuit.
Curious cameras catch cupping marks on Ovechkin
During a break in a shift midway through the Capitals game at New Jersey on Friday night, broadcast cameras seem to catch something of note on the Washington superstar's body.
As Ovechkin skated off the ice, the back left side of his neck revealed a mark akin to that received by those are receiving cupping therapy for an injury.
Cupping therapy is extremely popular amongst professional sports and is used for easing pain, mostly for backs and necks.
In his 19th season, Ovechkin has four goals and seven assists through 13 games, notching two goals in a 4-1 win at the Islanders on Saturday night.
Given the wear-and-tear of a nearly two-decade career, it's fair to say that the Washington legend is starting to show his age a bit in his quest to make history.
