Similar to the NHL the KHL has seen a recent increase in cases of COVID-19 and because of that the league has officially announced that beginning January 15th the league will officially shut down for 7 days to try and control the spread and handle case loads.
The league is expected to resume play on January 22nd and will play any missed games during the Olympic break with any players not selected for an Olympic roster.
The KHL issued this statement:
As of Jan 12, there were 171 positive PCR tests in the League's teams, 124 of them regarding players. This translates as an increase of 60 cases in just one day (including 27 players).
Thus, the League decided to cancel games #584 between Lokomotiv and Ak Bars, and #587 between Dynamo Moscow and Spartak, originally scheduled for Jan 13.
Avtomobilist comes out of quarantine after receiving negative results in new PCR tests for the whole team's personnel and will play its first match in the new year against Severstal.
Due to the rapid increase in the number of cases in the clubs and the high contagiousness of the virus, the League decided to postpone the game days on Jan 15, 17, 19 and 21, 2022 to later dates to be announced in a following official communication.
