The Winnipeg Jets have had a disappointing season to say the least. After getting swept in the playoffs last year to the Montreal Canadiens, we all thought they'd come back with season with vengeance and rip apart the league. Well, apparently the only one who got that memo was Kyle Connor who has put up a career high in goals (45) and points (89).
The Jets acquired Brenden Dillon and Nate Schmidt in the offseason to shore up the defence core that many thought would be a huge issue last season, and had a similar forward lineup to the season before that were dominant in the league, so where did they go wrong?
Could it be the coaching change? Paul Maurice resigned from the team before the season stating that he didn't believe he could take the team any further. He believed they had a cup calibre team but he wasn't the one who could bring them all the way. Well, looks like Dave Lowry was not the answer to do that either.
Jets defenceman Neal Pionk was pretty blunt with his response regarding his teams performance today.
«Let's be honest, it was kind of embarrassing what we did this year. We had a really good roster and totally under achieved.»
«When I look in the mirror, I'm embarrassed. I don't think I played as best as I could all year. I think if everyone goes into the summer and does that self-evaluation and we all come back, it'll be a lot better.»
