Last offseason Seth Jones was entering the final year of a contract and he publicly stated he wasn't interested in signing long term with the Blue Jackets, so he was traded from Columbus Blue Jackets with round 1 pick in the 2021 draft and round 6 pick in the 2022 draft to Chicago Blackhawks for Adam Boqvist, round 1 pick in the 2021 draft, round 2 pick in the 2021 draft and round 1 pick in the 2022 draft.
Almost immediately the Blackhawks signed the 26 year old to an 8 year extension with an AAV of $9.5 million, which the now head coach Derek King was definitely not a fan of ..... at the time.
Asked about Seth Jones' season, Derek King said he went from thinking, «I don't know why they signed this guy. Honestly,» during training camp to now, where he believes, «He's an elite hockey player. He's a stud.» pic.twitter.com/5KvEB2dQRZ Phillip Thompson (@_phil_thompson) April 27, 2022
Now that the season is over and Seth Jones produced 51 points in 77 games on a poor Blackhawks team, he has definitely turned around the opinion King had on him.
Now instead of King wishing the Hawks didn't sign him to that big contract, it's probably Jones wishing he didn't sign that big contract!
