Kaapo Kakko was the 2nd overall pick back in the 2019 NHL draft. After putting up very good numbers playing against men before his draft, he was projected to be one of the leagues next best goal scorers.
Unfortunately, things just have not panned out 'yet' for Kakko who in his 3 NHL seasons, he has only scored a combined 26 goals and 56 points. This is not to say he cannot still turn into the player he was projected to be as he is still very young. Some players take longer to develop, look at Jack Hughes who was the 1st overall pick in the 2019 draft, up until this season he was considered a 'bust' as well, and now he is one of the top players in the league, production wise.
This afternoon against the Detroit Red Wings, Kaapo was battling in the corner, took a slight spill and landed on his leg, twisting it in a direction it's definitely not supposed to go.
Anything you get your knee or leg twisted and then to boot, landing on it with all your weight and pressure, it's never good news.
Kakko left the game and did not return and is now ruled out with a lower body injury.
