Corey Perry officially signed with the Edmonton Oilers yesterday after a lengthy absence from the league beginning with his contract termination with the Chicago Blackhawks earlier this year. Now one NHL insider is reporting that the move could mean another major move is coming for the Oilers this season.

NHL Insider Reveals Oilers Could Trade Campbell Following Perry Signing

The Oilers started the season off with some of the worst goaltending performances of the season, leading to Jack Campbell being demoted to the AHL. Since then, Campbell has not improved, leading many to wonder what the team will do about his contract. Now Frank Seravalli believes they may be able to trade his contract after all.

«I think getting those two pieces for free (Holloway & Perry)..changes the total outlook of their deadline..I think it opens up the door for them to move Campbell.»

Oilers Willing To Pay The Price To Move Campbell?

Campbell has genuinely been the worst goaltender on an NHL contract this season. Making matters worse for the Oilers is the fact that he still has three years left after this one with a 5million dollar cap hit. In 14 games this season with the Bakersfield Condors he has a .904 save percentage and a 3.03 goals-against-average. His numbers have improved recently as he was previously sporting a save percentage in the .880s.

That being said, it would still likely take a lot to get another team to agree to take on his contract. The Oilers would likely have to give up at least a 1st round pick and likely another pick or prospect as well.

According to Frank Seravalli, the team may very well be willing to pay the price as they view Corey Perry as a trade deadline acquisition that they effectively got for free.

That being said, a trade involving the goaltender will likely be complicated. Stay tuned to see if the Oilers can figure out a way to move on from him this season.
