The renowned insider Elliotte Friedman shared a massive update on Connor McDavid's injury.

On Monday night, the Edmonton Oilers lost Connor McDavid after a scary incident during the game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. He left the game after only 37 seconds on the ice, and his team ended up losing 6-1.

McDavid suffered a lower-body injury when he was tripped by Columbus defenseman Zach Werenski, who tried to stop the Oilers captain from entering the Blue Jackets' zone with the puck.

If you missed it, here's how it went down:

The Oilers haven't shared any updates since the game, who mentioned back then that McDavid would return to Edmonton for further evaluations.

The insider Elliotte Friedman finally shared an update on McDavid's condition. In a post on X, he revealed that the worst-case scenario has been avoided as McDavid will only miss a couple of weeks:

A big question remains about the Oilers: can they be successful without McDavid?

Without him, they lost 6-1 against the Blue Jackets. In the next few weeks, the team is set to face some tough opponents, including the New Jersey Devils, Vegas Golden Knights, and Vancouver Canucks, with a trip to Calgary to face the Flames in a Battle for Alberta.

This season, in 10 games, McDavid scored 10 points. He shares the Oilers lead in points with Leon Draisaitl, who's expected to rise during McDavid's absence. The rest of the lineup will need to do the same. The team failed to answer when the captain was injured, and all they can do for him now is to win.

The Oilers' 4-5-1 record is well under the expectations for a team that reached the Stanley Cup Finals last year. Without McDavid, a tough challenge awaits the team. We'll see soon enough how the Oilers answer, as they're set to hit the ice tomorrow against the Nashville Predators.
