The Toronto Maple Leafs have made a move to make themselves salary compliant by placing forward Nick Ritchie on waivers. Ritchie signed a 2 year deal with an average annual value of $2,500,000 this past summer.
That start to Ritchie's career as a Maple Leaf hasn't gone as he'd hoped as the forward has only produced 7 points in 30 games, with only 1 goal. The Maple Leafs have recently activated Ilya Mikheyev and Mitch Marner from the injured reserve and needed to create cap space to be cap compliant.
Mikheyev has scored 3 goals since returning from injured reserve after suffering a broken thumb in the pre-season.
The likeliest outcome is that Ricthie will clear waives and be placed on the Maple Leafs Taxi Squad.
In other waivers news the Arizona Coyotes have claimed Riley Nash from the Tampa Bay Lightning.
