Ilya Mikheyev suffered a broken thumb that required surgery on October 9th on what looked to be a harmless looking play.
Mikheyev had successful surgery on the 13th of October when the swelling subsided according to coach Sheldon Keefe and has been rehabbing ever since.
Today Mikheyev tooks a big step forward as he tries to work his way back into game shape. Luke Fox of Sportsnet shared video of Mikheyev starting to work with the light weight orange pucks. Mikheyev is still lacking significant strength in his shot but should hopefully develop that quickly.
With Mikheyev looking to returning the next 2-3 weeks the Leafs will likely be looking to make roster moves which could result in either the demotion of Joey Anderson or Kirill Semyonov, but the Leafs could also look to operate the trade route with someone like Pierre Engvall. That being said the Leafs might not need to make that decision until Petr Mrazek returns from LTIR as the Leafs are currently operating with that cap space.
A line of Mikheyev-Kampf-Kase does sound extremely appealing defensively and could chip in a few goals with their speed and hard work.
