The Canadiens have won the first overall pick in this years draft and are officially entering a rebuild, which means we will be seeing quite a few players leave the Habs this offseason most likely.
One of those players is power forward Josh Anderson. Brought in from the Blue Jackets for Max Domi, Anderson brought a physical presence that was lacking on the Canadiens in seasons past. His 6'03 227lb frame provided the perfect net front presence and power along the boards to help the Canadiens. Unfortunately even though he put up 19 goals 32 points this season, it wasn't enough to pull the Habs out of last place, and with the team now rebuilding, he is now the trade target of many teams looking to contend for a cup.
The 28 year old has 5 seasons remaining on a contract that carries a cap hit of $5,500,000, which is fairly team friendly for a team looking to acquire the contract.
According to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, the Edmonton Oilers have been sniffing around as a cheaper replacement for Evander Kane, but apparently the Habs are asking ''A LOT'' for Anderson.
Another rumour is the New Jersey Devils, who said recently that he 2nd overall pick is in play to help their team be better now.
According to Friedman, it will need to be a ''knock your socks off'' offer to get Anderson, but the 2nd overall pick would definitely help speed up a Montreal Canadiens rebuild.
The #gohabsgo will be receiving lots of calls this summer, and one player that teams keep calling on is Josh Anderson.@mndamico has more below👇https://t.co/9hNigbTu1L— Montreal Hockey Now (@MTLhockeynow) June 11, 2022
