Alexander Ovechkin left tonight's game with what appears to be a left knee injury. Ovechkin attempted to check Travis Konecny and appeared to extend his left knee on the play. Ovechkin fell to the ice and appeared to be in considerable pain.
This injury would not bode well for the Capital or Ovechkin's chase for the all-time goal scoring record. Over the summer Ovechkin signed a new 5 year contract with a cap hit of 9.5 million dollars per season.
With the injury Hendrix Lapierre has moved up to play with Tom Wilson and Evegeny Kuznetsov.
Update:
It has now been announced Ovechkin will not return to tonight's game.
