REPORT: David Ayers the Emergency Backup who beat Maple Leafs - allegedly accused of abuse by EX-Wife
The year was 2020 before the COVID Pandemic hit the league, on February 22nd the Toronto Maple Leafs played against the Carolina Hurricanes and suffered a hilarious defeat.
During that game the Hurricanes lost both Petr Mrazek and James Reimer with injuries and the 42 year old David Ayers who was the emergency backup and practice goalie for the Maple Leafs was called into play for the Hurricanes.
After he defeated the Maple Leafs he became a league legend and has a hero status to this day across the league.
Apparently there was even a Disney story in the works as a potential underdog story.
Everyone across the league loves him, but his ex-wife Sarah has some info that might make us all change our opinions of him. Sarah posted on her Twitter account yesterday that David abused her:
November 4th is going to go down as the very last day that I will ever have to hear someone say to me "just look at you, you're fat and disgusting!"
It will be the last time I'm told I'm ugly, it will be the last day of mental anguish that I have to face at the hands of someone who swore they loved me. No more gaslighting, narcissism, abuse or control.
The ugly cry has happened and it was harsher than harsh. The realization that I subjected myself to so much negativity is beyond comprehension.
Hindsight and the recent support and love of a group of women has changed the way will forever see my worth. I have come out of this a changed and raw but empowered as fuck individual and I swear to Christ I will never allow myself to ever go back to the person I was.

This isn't a matter of it being hockey culture. It's a matter of people who are bullies, who have been given a false sense of entitlement.
