In the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, the Toronto Maple Leafs drafted Rodion Amirov with their 15th overall pick.
Amirov was given the unfortunate news this past February that he had been diagnosed with a Brain Tumour.
After undergoing treatment, he was expected to return skating this fall, but that will not be happening now unfortunately.
There has been little information announced about Amirov's current condition, but it seems like after he returned from Toronto in October, it sounds as though his cancer has returned.
We are still waiting to hear more about Amirov's condition, but currently the Director of Amirov's KHL Club has given the following:
With Rodion, the issue is more complicated. He is going through a difficult period of treatment. Then there will be another treatment for three weeks. I can't say when he will return. The situation is serious. He really wants to return. We are in touch with him." Bashirov said.
No one deserves to suffer through this disease, and I truly hope some day we find a cure. All we can do now is offer our thoughts and prayers for this young prospect to help him get through this rough time and hope he gets to live out his dreams.
