Despite sitting in first place in the Atlantic Division, the Toronto Maple Leafs have dropped two straight games coming into their Tuesday night clash with the powerhouse Dallas Stars.
Now, it appears that changes are on the way, with Head Coach Craig Berube making a shock change to their lineup at practice on Monday, as he reportedly added Steven Lorentz to the first-line alongside Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner, demoting young Matthew Knies to the second line.
After that massive change, this is what the lineup looks like before the team takes on the Stars on Tuesday night:
This comes after Marner and Matthews were both at a goal differential of -7 over the losses to the Carolina Hurricanes and Vancouver Canucks, with the addition of Lorentz a very intriguing move indeed.
This season, the the 28-year-old has played mainly in the bottom-six, tallying just 4 goals and 9 points in 44 games played, but now, he's bringing the grit to the top line alongside the team's two biggest stars and most skilled players.
It's unclear at this point in time whether or not Berube is simply trying to spark this team back into the chemistry and momentum they had earlier in the year, or whether the team believes this is a viable top line moving forward, but after the chemistry, we saw Marner and Matthews have with Max Domi a year ago, there are certainly other changes this team could make.
