The Boston Bruins were once one of the most feared teams in the NHL but their days among the top contenders of the league are suddenly over.
This season it is not clear if the team will even make the playoffs, let alone contend for another Stanley Cup.
In fact, things have gotten so bad, that it is no guarantee what direction the team will take as we approach the trade deadline.
Today, Don Sweeney addressed this as he spoke to the media, indicating that the the team will take a different approach to the trade deadline this year than they have in recent seasons.
He specifically used the term 'cautious' in describing the team's plans, indicating that the club likely will not make any big moves, especially as buyers.
Of course, as the Bruins continue to collapse, Sweeney's job could be on the line.
Many fans of the team are already calling for him to be fired, with some also calling for a complete teardown so the team can start fresh with new management next season.
If anything, it would seem more likely than not that the Bruins will stand pat or be sellers at the trade deadline.
Several players that could garner interest from around the league include Brad Marchand, Charlie Coyle, Trent Fredrick, and Nikita Zadorov.
Whichever direction the team chooses, the next few weeks could prove to be extremely important for the Bruins future, so be sure to keep an eye on the team going forward.
