Hockey players are tough, we see them play through injuries all the time to give their team the best shot to win, but sometimes when an injury has the potential to impact the quality of your life, especially post-career, you need to realize that there is more important things in life than a sport.
Jake Muzzin is a heart and soul guy and is a very impactful player for the Toronto Maple Leafs, but they have been without him all season except for the first 4 games due to injury.
For the last 3 seasons, Muzzin has really struggled with injuries, only playing in 53, 53 and 47 games and this injury he suffered this season has been the worst yet. We have not seen Muzzin in a game since he took a hit against Arizona back on October 17th.
Maple Leafs General Manager Kyle Dubas had this to say when his injury was first announced:
He's a father of two young children, a husband. We have to make sure we're doing right by him. As important as he is as a player, his health is paramount.
Now TSN Overdrives Chris Johnson has made this statement regarding the future of Jake Muzzin:
My understanding is he has a follow-up appointment in California with the doctors he saw there," he said. "It is at some point early next week, and then there will be a clear direction. It would be a surprise if he was able to come back and make an attempt at returning. He has stayed very close with the team and has been with them on the road, but I don't believe it will be in the cards that he will be back healthy and playing again.
We wish Muzzin nothing but the best moving forward, and while he might want to play for the Maple Leafs again, his health and family life definitely comes first.
