Red Wings Coach Reveals Unfortunate Update For Captain Dylan Larkin
Detroit Captain Dylan Larkin appeared to be seriously injured on Saturday after he took a cross-check to the head in conjunction with an unfortunate collision on his way down to the ice. He laid on the ice motionless as chaos ensued around him. Today Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde addressed the situation, providing us with an update on Larkin's status.
Lalonde Confirms Larkin Will Be Out Long-Term
Lalonde stated this morning that Larkin will be placed on injured reserve and that there is currently no timeline for his return. By NHL rules, he will have to be out at least ten days as he is officially on the team's injured list. That number will be retroactive to Sunday.
Red Wings place Larkin on IR with 'no timeframe'
The Detroit Red Wings placed captain Dylan Larkin on injured reserve Monday, two days after being knocked unconscious when he was cross-checked in the back of the head and neck by Ottawa Senators forward Mathieu Joseph at Little Caesars Arena. It seems then that the Red Wings will be without Larkin for quite some time. He will not be the only player the team will be missing in the coming weeks though.
Perron Suspended Six Games For Retaliatory Cross Check
Unfortunately for the team, they will also be without David Perron for the next six contests as he got a lengthy suspension for cross checking Artem Zub in the aftermath of the same play.
Perron likely thought that Zub was the one who injured Larkin, but that was not the case. Regardless, Perron is facing the proper punishment for his actions as the cross check on Zub was far beyond the acceptable threshold.
It seems then that the Red Wings will be significantly under manned in their next few games. The team will have to rely on newcomer Patrick Kane to spark the offense now that two-thirds of their top line is out.
