It's been a few weeks since the blockbuster trade between the Florida Panthers and Calgary Flames, which sent Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk to the Panthers in return for Jonathan Huberdeau, Mackenzie Weegar, 1st round pick and a prospect.
While on paper, the Flames absolutely ran away with this trade, as Huberdeau alone outproduced Tkachuk last season, but both Huberdeau and Weegar have one year remaining on their current deals and if they cannot re-sign them to an extension, they risk losing them for nothing if they try to make another playoff run, or they could trade them at the deadline for assets.
One team that was pushing hard for Matthew Tkachuk were the St. Louis Blues. Matthew's father Keith Tkachuk was a member of the St. Louis Blues for 9 seasons, where he put up some pretty decent numbers for the Blues:
Needless to say, the Blues were really hoping to get a Tkachuk wearing their colours again.
