In the last few years, there has been an influx of dynamic young American forwards into the NHL who can make something out of nothing. About a month ago Jack Hughes scored one of the nicest Overtime winners you will ever see with the patience to wait out the goalie and score the game-winner. But what he did after is what got my attention, the stick toss into the stands.
How great is that? You go to a hockey game to watch your favourite team, your star player scores, then he gives you his stick? Sign me up.
A few nights ago Trevor Zegras, another young American forward, blessed us with another stick toss. But since it's the NHL and they can't get out of their own way to grow the game, Zegras was assessed a 10-minute misconduct for his celebration.
The NHL needs to start embracing celebrations. When a fan watches NFL, the most popular league in North America, highlights what is always one of the main features? The touchdown celebrations! Fans love passions, creativity and most of all they love to see the players having fun.
But why limit the stick toss to overtime winners? We can't forget the save to clinch a shootout victory stick toss!
