Anytime a team doesn't live up to expectations there is bound to be shake-ups to personnel and with that comes speculation and trade rumours.
One such San Jose player is Erik Karlsson.
The Swedish born high-scoring defenseman (at one time) was traded to the Sharks from the Ottawa Senators 4 years ago for a several players and a first-round draft pick in a rebuild attempt for the Sens.
The Sharks thought they were getting play-making defender who was capable of averaging nearly a point-per-game but since the trade to the west coast Karlsson has underperformed statistically and is now the subject of trade rumours and speculation.
Friedman at the intermission says there was some very preliminary trade talks during the season involving Erik Karlsson and a couple of teams, however EF doesn't think that'll go anywhere but what it does say is having Burns & Karlsson didn't mesh as well as they would have liked� NHL Watcher (@NHL_Watcher) May 8, 2022
Though it should be noted these trade talks are framed as:
it is still interesting to contemplate, especially when fans of teams that didn't make the post-season or fans of teams that want to improve the rosters of post-season teams can imagine a big-time player like Karlsson on their team and returning to his old form.
Time will tell with EK moves on from the Sharks.
