An interview from his days with the USA National Team Development Program revealed that his favorite NHL team is the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Of course, the Penguins and Flyers are bitter rivals and many Penguins fans cannot stand the Flyers. If Gauthier fits into this mold then the reason he wanted away from Philadelphia becomes obvious.

Regardless of the reasons Gauthier now heads to Anaheim while the Flyers get the offensive defenseman they have been looking for to bring their rebuild along. It will be fascinating to see how this trade ages as both players continue their pro-hockey careers.
