NHL defenseman Tony DeAngelo is refuting recent claims that he has signed with a team in the KHL, leaving the NHL for good.

The reports emerged yesterday, as DeAngelo was linked to KHL club CSKA Moscow. Many fans took the news as an opportunity to share their favorite moments of him in the NHL, many of which were him getting beat up in fights. Safe to say, DeAngelo is not a particularly popular player in the league.

Tony DeAngelo looks to be signing in the KHL according to multiple reports.
Throwback to when he got dogpiled by the Lightning

However, new reports have contradicted those that he was signing in Russia. The Hockey Writer journalist Jesse Courville-Lynch confirmed himself that the reports are false. This is backed up by reports from Puck Empire saying the same thing.

Tony Deangelo is NOT heading to Russia, despite reports.

Panagiotis Mavridis (better known as PuckEmpire on IG) confirms Deangelo is still looking to make an NHL return.

Deangelo has also confirmed, with me, he is hoping for an NHL return this season.

The two sources went so far as to share direct messages between them and the player on both X and Instagram. In both cases, DeAngelo denied that he was signing in Russia, and confirmed that he is still hoping to land another NHL job next season.

DeAngelo got into just 31 games last season for the Carolina Hurricanes were he recorded 3 goals and 11 points. He has bounced around the league, playing games for the Rangers, Flyers, Hurricanes, and Coyotes, totaling 371 regular season appearances. he has48 career goals and 210 points. The best season of his career came in 2019-20, when he set career highs in goals with 15, and points with 53. Will the 28-year-old ever reach such highs again? That is yet to be seen.
