The Calgary Flames placed veteran defenceman Tyson Barrie on waivers Thursday. Barrie has played 13 games with the Flames this season, recording one goal, two assists, and four penalty minutes with a minus-seven rating.
In late January, he was briefly assigned to the AHL's Calgary Wranglers on a conditioning stint, where he scored a goal and added two assists in two games.
The 33-year-old has suited up in 822 NHL contests with the Avalanche, Maple Leafs, Oilers, Predators, and Flames. He has 110 goals and 398 assists for 508 points in his career.
Barrie had 15 points (one goal, 14 assists) in 41 games with Nashville last season. He has surpassed the 50-point mark three times, including a career-best 59-point campaign (14 goals, 45 assists) with Colorado in 2018-19.
The Avalanche originally selected him 64th overall in the 2009 NHL Draft. Barrie agreed to terms with Calgary in October on a one-year, $1.25 million contract after impressing at training camp on a professional tryout. He will be an unrestricted free agent in July.
The New York Islanders were also busy waiving former first-round pick Dennis Cholowski today. Cholowski played in 33 games for the Islanders this season, where he scored three goals and added seven assists for a total of 10 points.
Cholowski was picked by the Detroit Red Wings with their 20th overall pick in the 2016 NHL entry draft.
