Major Trade Rumor Sends Top Goalie to the Toronto Maple Leafs
On Saturday morning, The Athletic unveiled their trade deadline projections for all 32 teams. In their paper, they mentionned that a deal could be on the verge of being reached between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Athletic's Bold Deadline Projections: Pittsburgh Penguins to Send a Goaltender to the Toronto Maple Leafs?
According to Josh Yohe, who covers the Pittsburgh Penguins for The Athletic, both goalies Alex Nedeljkovic or Tristan Jarry are considered as potential trade candidates.
He also stated that the Toronto Maple Leafs would be in the running if the Pens decide they want to pull the trigger on a trade.
Check out his full declaration:
"The Penguins almost certainly won't make the playoffs at this point, and right now, their team strength is goaltending. I could see Tristan Jarry or Alex Nedeljkovic being moved before the deadline. Both have been excellent. Pittsburgh also has a couple of good goaltending prospects in the system.
Many teams Toronto, Carolina and Colorado, among many others could use a boast between the pipes and might be willing to pay quite a price for Jarry or Nedeljkovic. Josh Yohe"
Considering Kyle Dubas's deep knowledge of Toronto's roster and his past connections with the team, he might be interested to acquire one of his former players for Pittsburgh.
However, with Joseph Woll's imminent return and Samsonov performing better than he did a few months back, the Leafs should probably focus on other areas in the roster.
Taking into account that other top teams could be interested, it won't be easy for Brad Treliving to make it happen.
