There's increasing speculation about two major contenders going after the same prize in the NHL trade market, with rumors of an imminent bidding war over Vancouver Canucks forward Nils Hoglander.
On the latest '32 Thoughts' podcast, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman mentioned the Pittsburgh Penguins love Hoglander and want him in Pittsburgh, courtesy of their GM Kyle Dubas.
Friedman further said this young skilled forward is one of those players who will have more than a few suitors, so the Penguins won't be the only ones interested.
Though with the involvement of the Boston Bruins rumored in it, there is no confirmation out yet. As far as what's believed, though, it is felt that General Manager Don Sweeney thinks Hoglander can become a big factor in improving his team.
So far, though, it would appear both Sweeney and Dubas are prepared to approach roster improvements conservatively, and that makes things interesting.
Although Friedman views Hoglander as a perfect fit with the Penguins, others have said his skill set is more suited to Boston's needs.
His style of play, energized role, and ability to score might be what Boston's forwards need to take that next step in competitiveness through the division for the remainder of the season, which makes this an interesting situation concerning Hoglander's possible signing.
Does that mean this is the piece that makes this roster jump to the next level? Does this really assure a longer run in the post-season for Penguins fans? Is the hype on Hoglander worth it?
